A TALE'S TAIL
News Item: A supporter of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has threatened
to sue a cinema in Dhaka for spelling 'Tale' in a poster of the biopic, Hasina: A
Daughter's Tale as 'Tail'.
I don't know if I have misspelled the word.
How can you say that?
Well, how can you, as we say in Bangladesh?
What do you mean?
I mean it is difficult with a man who could, I suppose, possibly hide a tail down a
trouser leg, but with a woman in a voluminous sari, who knows what she might be
hiding, let alone a tail ...
Now listen, you don't have to be indecent ...
I am not; you are. I just made a factual observation. All she has to do is to get a
doctor's certificate taken under oath testifying that she does not have a tail or any
other protuberance that could be interpreted as such.
That is insulting.
Insulting? Why? How many opposition leaders have been hanged? Now that is an
insult to our country.
They were found to have committed war crimes.
By her war crimes tribunal. You and I know how these things work, and there are
reports of extra-judicial killings. And now death sentences for 19 more.
You can't believe the foreign press ...
Yes, the blind cannot see just as you don't see the advantage of a tail. What with all
the flies, our PM could be sitting in her office working, or being interviewed without
flies being a distraction. Why? Because she could keep swishing them away with her
tail ... plus she'd be world-famous and donors will come in pouring money solving our
perennial financial problems -- you see, no end to the benefits of a PM's tail ...
