A BUZZARD'S LIFE ... AMONG THE CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
News Item: Mayor Elect Rahm Emanuel appoints J C Brizard Superintendent of
Chicago Public Schools.
It is not easy being a buzzard: life is
uncertain; my existence is precarious;
I live on the edge of a precipice; the
precipice of death; yes, I live by it.
I clean schools for a living. No, I am
not the janitor; I am the big boss. So,
what do I do? Well, I gut the schools
under my supervision.
You might well ask why the chief of
schools would set about destroying
them. It's simple: I believe in the
Schumpeterian philosophy of creative
destruction. They create; I destroy.
So, you destroy schools to create new
ones? In a way. I demoralize the teachers, kill the unions; the best ones
scurry away, and when the school fails, I pounce; I gut it.
That's where my friends, the charter school voucher vultures come in. They
clean up what's left. We are the wreck and clean-up crew. And clean-up we
do -- we make tons and tons of money.
