Porcupine's Quill

THE CIRCUS CAT
Item: Today is the one-year anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear plant
disaster following the massive earthquake and tsunami.
My poor mother. She had a very happy life shortened too early. She had
set herself up in the basement of this huge building. It was warm with plenty
of space, and the occasional stray mouse to add spice to life and variety to
diet. She didn't do too badly with the workmen either. They gave her fish
from their lunch boxes ... and she loved fish.
The peaceful rhythm of her life was shattered the day the water came. She
barely escaped with her life, but stayed around hoping for her friends to
come back. They never did, and she shouldn't have.
I was born there and in a few months my mother got very sick and died. I
don't know what happened to my brother and sister but I walked to where
there were people. A boy found me, the mother looked terrified. Many
humans examined me and tested me.
I work with a circus now and a group of dogs who are all friends. They chase
me in our act and I do tricks no cat has done before. The audience goes
wild. It is easy for me. I have six legs.
