News Item: The battle for Al-Qusayr has intensified with Hezbollah fighters now aiding
the Syrian government forces.
Who cares about me? I am just a little Syrian hamster. But these humans show no
mercy; they are worse than all the critters that want to eat me. At least, they take us
by surprise, and, quickly it's all over. The humans though ... they are different ...
very different ...
First, they make little earthquakes ... all day. The ground rumbles and we can't
sleep. Then, now and again they'll make a big earthquake and our home collapses.
Most of my family have escaped to Lebanon. Believe me, it was not easy -- for them,
or for me. I don't know if I will ever see them again.
Oh my God! Here it comes again. I can hear the whistling, the sound before the
earthquake hits. It's gone over us. There! Did you hear that? Did you feel the
ground shake? Pretty bad, isn't it?
You humans have been at it for thousands of years. Just over that way, our
ancestral stories tell us, there were thundering chariots clashing, crashing, making
the ground shake ... screams of men, clouds of dust -- a pharaoh from out west
against a king from up north. It was all over in a day though and my kind could go
back to their lives.
It's different now; it's been going on for my lifetime. I am tired ... so tired. There, you
hear it, the whistling sound again. Wait, here it comes, the earthshaking. One day it
will be close enough when I won't be able to talk to you anymore. I am so tired ... I
hope it is soon.
